ROLE OF A CERTIFIED NURSING ASSISTANT (CNA)/HEALTH CARE ASSISTANT/HEALTH SERVICE SUPPORT
The role of a CNA officer is varied and beyond. It plays important role in the entire health care sector making it pivotal. Some of its roles includes:
- Turning or repositioning bedridden patients
- Taking patients’ temperature, blood pressure, and other vital signs
- Answering patient calls
- Documenting patients’ health issues and reporting to nurses
- Feeding patients, measuring and recording their food and liquid intake
- Cleaning rooms and bed linens
- Helping with medical procedures
- Helping patients with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, eating, and moving
- Recording vital signs such as blood pressure and pulse rate, and keeping accurate records in the patient’s chart
- Reminding patients to take medications and nutritional supplements as needed
- Turning and repositioning bedridden patients to prevent bedsores and infections
- Emptying and cleaning bed pans and changing linens
- Obtaining information about conditions and plans of treatment from health care providers
- Providing emotional and social support to patients and their families
- Assisting in Feeding,Grooming and Mobility of Patients.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
- KCSE GRADE D (PLAIN) AND ABOVE
- Any Qualification as Determined by KNQA
Course Duration
The Certificate course takes 9 months of classwork and 3 months of hospital attachment.
